Free Reading Class | Make Reading CLICK!
It’s not just you—teaching your child to read can feel confusing.
Should you be working on sight words? Buying flashcards? Reading more books, slower books, or… decodable ones (what even is that?)?
The good news: You’re not alone, and you’re not behind.
Even better? There’s a way to support your child’s reading without stress or guesswork.
Hi! I’m Beth—founder of Big City Readers and a former early elementary teacher with a Master’s in Reading Education. I’ve spent the last decade supporting families, schools, and libraries around the world in helping children become strong, confident readers.
My passion is making reading make sense for grown-ups and kids. Because when it clicks for us, it clicks for them.
At Big City Readers, we believe in:
Play-based learning that’s rooted in brain science
Joyful connection between caregiver and child
Research-backed tools that work in real life (yes, even when you’re cooking dinner)
Skills-first literacy, not memorization tricks
We’re not here to create pressure or perfection. We’re here to help you build your child’s reading foundation—joyfully and confidently—one small step at a time.
Ready to Make Reading Click? Try Our Free Reading Class!
For parents of kindergarten, first, and second graders, this free workshop will give you simple, effective ways to support your child’s reading. I’ll walk you through what actually works and, more importantly, why.
Inside, I’ll share:
The three biggest mistakes that hold young readers back (and what to do instead)
How to support reading at home in a way that matches how your child’s brain learns best
Why you are the best person to guide your child’s reading journey, and how to do it without the overwhelm
Why memorizing sight words and guessing at pictures doesn’t set kids up for success
Why Families Look Beyond the Classroom
You can’t always control how reading is taught at school. Teachers are sometimes required to follow the curriculum they’re given, even if it leans on memorizing or picture guessing instead of building real reading skills.
And honestly, it’s not the teacher’s fault. Teachers are expected to be experts in every subject, and most don’t have the time (or freedom) to dig into all the latest research on reading. I was once a teacher who thought memorization was the way to go, too.
Here’s the good news: what happens at home is in your hands. You get to make sure your child is learning to read the right way — with strategies that build confidence and help the words click. When reading feels natural and fun, kids stop just memorizing and start understanding — and that’s when they really take off.
This is exactly what I teach YOU, the parents, in this free reading class.
Just look at what previous parents have said.
